One of our most ilustrious customers, the renowned Aleixo Belov, born in Ucrania and immigrated to Brazil when he was 6 years old, is currently sailing through the Northwest passage on his Polar 65, one of our most exciting designs for Polar exploration and sailing.
At the moment of writing, Fraternidade, the 65 foot expedition boat built from our plans is already half way through the always risky journey from the Pacific to the Atlantic via the Arctic waters that are normally frozen. They had to wait long in Nome, Alasca, for the ice to start to open, and decided to leave port even before there was a clear sign of tawing, making for some difficult encounters with ice floes.
Below is a link for an excellent video put together by the expedition´s photographer, Leonardo Pappini, who also gently sent us the pictures in this post:
We are happy to have one more of our designs exploring the most extreme waters of the planet, as it was the case with Amyr Klink´s Paratii, an aluminum Polar 50 that wintered in Antarctica in the summer of 1990.
We will keep following this great journey and keep you posted. Having the input from such demanding and experienced costumers is a great factor pushing our designs to the limits of reliability and performance.
Thanks
