Boat Description

Interior layout:

The interior of the Multichine 38 Sport features two double cabins and one comfortable head.

Coming down from the companionway there is a large L shaped galley to port, and aft of this the double aft cabin. To port there is the ample head compartment and a forward facing nav station. The central area is dominated by a large dinette that seats four people comfortably to port and a sofa that can double as a quarter bed to starboard.

Moving forward there is a spacious walk-in double cabin with plenty of storage space. The layout is almost the same for an optional lifting keel version, with a slight reduction of the dinette table size and galley sink counter space.

Deck layout, standing rigging and sail plan:

The Multichine 38 Sport features a low-profile coach roof extending forward of the mast for good headroom in the forward cabin. With double swept back spreaders its fractional rig provides ample power to move this modern hull, with a 100% jib and large footed mainsail, plus a fixed or retractable bow sprit for a gennaker to take care of light airs.

The mainsail sheet is anchored on a portico above the cockpit, which also serves as a good anchoring point for a spray dodger, and all mast lines are led aft to the coach roof mounted winches. Tracks for headsail sheet control are mounted well inboard, on top of the coach roof, for a better jib sheeting angle, providing greater headwind pointing capability.

The fore deck is clean with the anchor winch mounted inside the chain locker, with a specially designed bow piece that leads the anchor rode under the deck to the winch.

Aft there is a roomy T shaped cockpit with twin wheel stations and a free walk through from the companionway to the aft swim platform.

At request we can also supply a short cabin with flush forward deck version, for those that do not need an extra double cabin with full headroom and want to maximize sailing performance. This version comes with a hard dodger on the style of the Open 40 racing boats, tillers instead of wheels and a central mainsail sheet winch mounted on a cockpit pedestal that also doubles as life raft container. The boom is also longer and the mainsail sheeted to a traveller track on the aft edge of the cockpit, making this version more lively and exciting to sail.

Keel, rudders and auxiliary propulsion:

The standard version features a fin keel with a 1.95m draft. The double spade elliptical rudders are designed for maximum performance and built in composite over an aluminium shaft for lightness.

For an even better righting moment, shallower draft and a big increase of the performance, an optional lifting bulbed keel can be fitted, making the draft as low as 1.50m with the keel retracted and 2.47m with it extended.

Auxiliar propulsion can be by traditional drive shaft or saildrive on a 40HP diesel engine.

With 440l of water and 200l of diesel fuel, capacities are good for a family boat of this size.
