Construção em Alumínio

The Saco da Ribeira Bay, in Ubatuba, northern shore of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, has been one of the amateur construction hubs for offshore cruising sailboats. It’s a region of rare beauty, where mountains covered in rain forest and seas of pristine waters touch each other and with one of the most perfect cruising grounds to be found anywhere in the world. It is no surprise that so many cruising sailors choose this place to build the boats of their dreams.

One of the key factors for creating an amateur construction hub is the availability of a location with an adequate infrastructure at affordable rental cost. The next step is the creation of a community of builders that will support each other. The Saco da Ribeira developed a centre of amateur construction that is unrivalled anywhere else in Brazil. The high volume of boat construction activities brought to the region a group of skilled technicians who give support to the builders and provide all kinds of services. This in part explains the excellence of the standards of most boats built there.

We from B&G Yacht Design have reasons to be proud about this boom of amateur construction, since the majority of boats being built there by amateurs are from our office’s designs, with the Multichine 28 being particularly successful among them. There have been excellent Multichine 28 launched in Ubatuba. The following are three examples: Marimbondo, Bagual and De Capitani. Together with some other previous constructions, we recon the Saco da Ribeira is the place where there are more boats of the class sharing the same anchorage.

Our customer Greg Barras, from Victoria, Australia, has just lifted his engine to place it on board his nearly finished Kiribati 36 hull.

He is approaching that nice stage in amateur boatbuilding when the interior fit out begins after the hard work of building a hull and appendages of a sailboat.

Greg and his family have been doing an amazing job in their garage, which is resembling more a professional boatyard than a part time operation by a family!

He also ordered a special interior layout for his yacht, and will have a raised saloon table, so he and his wife can dine or relax with a view through the panoramic windows on their boat.

We offer complete kits both for the aluminium structure and the interior joinery for the Kiribati 36, and this can make the building process a whole lot faster and cheaper.
We will keep posting his progress here, stay tuned!
